5K FAQs

What is the current 5K registration fee?
The 5K registration fee is $40.50. Prices increase incrementally as Race Day approaches.

How do I register?

Is there Race Day registration?
No, unfortunately we cannot process registrations on Race Day.

Is there Expo registration?
We will offer registration at the Health & Fitness Expo for any event that has not sold out. Expo registration fees will be significantly higher than current fees, and because there are registration caps for all events, some events will sell out prior to the Expo. Don't risk it—register now!

What time does the 5K start?
TBD—please check back soon!

How many miles is a 5K?
A 5K is approximately 3.1 miles.

Is the 5K course certified?
Our 5K is USATF-certified.

Is there a map of the 5K course?
Click here to view the course map.

Is the race timed?
Yes, the 5K is a timed event.

Is there a 5K training program?
Yes, we are offering a free training program in partnership with the Pasadena Pacers. Training will kick off this fall. Check back soon for details!

How many people will participate in the 5K?
Approximately 1500.

Is there a cap on how many people can participate in the 5K?
Yes, there are registration caps for all events, and every year some Pasadena Marathon events sell out prior to the Expo. Avoid the disappointment of a sellout and save some money by registering early!

How long do I have to complete the 5K?
5K participants must maintain a 15 minute/mile pace or faster. Streets on the racecourse will be reopened to vehicle traffic based on this pace, and those falling behind will need to move to sidewalks and adhere to all pedestrian rules.

So, I can walk the 5K?
Yes, as long as you can maintain the 15 minute/mile pace or faster as described above.

Can athletes in wheelchairs participate?
Though we don't have a wheeled division, athletes in wheelchairs may certainly participate.

Can I push my child in a stroller?
Paid registrants may push their infants and toddlers aged 3 and under in strollers on the 5K course. For the safety of all participants, children must remain in strollers at all times while on the racecourse. We also ask for your consideration of fellow runners in positioning yourself toward the rear of the starting line crowd.

What is the minimum participant age?
There is no minimum participant age for the 5K. While we are confident in the safety of our racecourse, parents are always ultimately responsible for the wellbeing of their children. Therefore, if you have concerns about your child's safety while participating in the 5K, you should also register for the event in order to accompany your child.

What goodies do I get?
You will receive a tech shirt, bib, timing chip, and a bunch of SWAG in your race packet. And, of course, you'll get a medal upon crossing the Finish!

How do I get my race packet?
All 5K participants must pick up their race packets at the Health & Fitness Expo. Check back soon for more details on Expo date, time, and location. THERE IS NO RACE DAY PACKET PICKUP UNLESS YOU SELECT THE VIP OPTION DURING THE ONLINE REGISTRATION PROCESS AND PAY THE ADDITIONAL $25 fee.

What if I can't make it to the Expo?
If you know in advance that you won't be able to attend the Expo, and you do not wish to select the VIP option, someone else may pick up your race packet at the Expo on your behalf. They will need to present a photocopy of your Driver's License, State or Military-issued ID card, or Student ID card in order to retrieve your materials.

Are there awards?
Every 5K participant crossing the Finish Line gets a medal. If you're going for the Gold, Silver, or Bronze, we will award the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as top three male and female finishers in each age division.

Can I listen to music while I run?
The answer is a weak "Yes." You may bring your tunes, though for safety reasons, we don't encourage the practice.

Can I bring my dog?
Our apologies to your Best Running Buddy—no dogs (or any other animal) on the racecourse.

Can I skate the distance?
Roller skates, inline skates, skateboards, scooters, and other similar wheeled recreational conveyances are not permitted on the racecourse.

What about directions to the Start, carpool options, parking, and other logistical info?
We understand that you're ready to map out your Race Weekend—trust us, we're anxious to nail down these details, too! But don't worry, we'll get lots of good information to you in the coming months. The Big Email (our internal designation for the messaging we send to registered participants in the week prior to Race Weekend) will provide all the nitty-gritty, so stay tuned!

Thanks for your interest in the 2012 Pasadena Marathon!
